Level Up Your Business

Learning to design using proper software is critical. It can be used in many different industries, including but not limited to, product manufacturing, package design, logo creation, web, apps, and more.

Purchasing graphics off of Etsy may seem like a good idea, but it comes with its own set of limitations. The designs that are sold on Etsy are usually copies of copies, or basic text you can layout yourself using a free program like Inkscape.

While there is no shortcut to becoming a pro, there are tons of resources available to you for free – and for a fee – online.

One of my favourite places to start learning, honestly, is Youtube. I can’t tell you how many computer or car problems I’ve solved, thanks to a how-to video.

Another great place to find guides or lessons to follow, is Instructables. I’ve found it especially useful for Arduino projects.

With just these two resources, you’ll go from being totally lost in a program, to being comfortable. With enough time and practice, you’ll become a pro.

Adobe Illustrator has long reigned supreme, though is becoming increasingly cost prohibitive with each passing year. Alternatively, for payware Affinity comes highly recommended.

Inkscape is an open-source program, aimed at bringing capable software to the masses. For vector creation and manipulation, it works. The learning curve is a bit steeper, but it isn’t impossible.

Do yourself, and your business, a favour, and learn to design. Or you’ll wonder why that thing you thought was gonna happen, didn’t happen.
